Haematology Tests in Visakhapatnam
Complete blood count, haemoglobin, platelets, ESR, blood grouping and clotting tests – the foundation of diagnosis for anaemia, infection and fever.
About haematology at SMS Diagnostics
Haematology is the study of blood and its components – red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets – along with the clotting system. A blood count is one of the most frequently ordered tests in medicine because changes in these cells can point to anaemia, infections, inflammation, bleeding disorders and many other conditions.
At SMS Diagnostics, Visakhapatnam, haematology tests are carried out using automated cell counting supported by microscopic peripheral smear review where required. During the monsoon and fever season in Vizag, platelet count and CBC monitoring are especially important for patients with dengue and other viral fevers, and our central location near KGH makes repeat testing convenient.

What does a CBC test show?
A Complete Blood Count measures haemoglobin, red blood cells, white blood cells with differential count, and platelets. It helps detect anaemia, infections, inflammation, and some blood disorders.
Is fasting required for a CBC test?
No. A CBC can be done at any time of day without fasting.
What is a normal platelet count?
In adults, a platelet count of roughly 1.5 to 4.5 lakh per microlitre is commonly considered normal. Your report will show the reference range used by the laboratory, and your doctor will interpret the result.
How often should platelets be checked in dengue?
During dengue, doctors frequently advise daily platelet counts, especially between days 3 and 7 of fever. Always follow your treating doctor's advice.
