Biochemistry Tests in Visakhapatnam
Blood sugar, HbA1c, liver, kidney, lipid and electrolyte tests that help assess your metabolism and organ health.
About biochemistry at SMS Diagnostics
Clinical biochemistry measures chemicals in the blood and body fluids – glucose, cholesterol, enzymes, proteins, electrolytes and waste products. These values show how well vital organs such as the liver, kidneys, heart and pancreas are working, and they are essential for diagnosing and monitoring conditions like diabetes, fatty liver, kidney disease and high cholesterol.
SMS Diagnostics in Visakhapatnam offers a wide range of biochemistry investigations for patients referred by doctors and for people who want regular health monitoring. Whether you need a single fasting sugar test or a complete organ-function panel, our team explains the preparation clearly so you get an accurate result the first time.

How many hours of fasting is needed for a blood sugar test?
For a fasting blood sugar test, 8–12 hours of overnight fasting is generally recommended. You may drink plain water. Do not take tea, coffee or juice before the sample.
What is the difference between fasting sugar and HbA1c?
Fasting sugar shows your glucose level at that moment, while HbA1c reflects your average blood sugar over the previous 2–3 months. Doctors often use both together to diagnose and monitor diabetes.
Is fasting needed for a lipid profile?
Traditionally a 9–12 hour fast is advised for a lipid profile, particularly for accurate triglyceride values. Your doctor may sometimes accept a non-fasting sample – please follow their instructions.
Which tests check liver and kidney health?
The Liver Function Test (LFT) checks liver enzymes, bilirubin and proteins, while the Kidney Function Test (KFT) checks urea, creatinine, uric acid and electrolytes.
